Prerequisite: Basic understanding of individual and business tax preparation and compliance


This hands-on workshop is designed for tax and financial professionals who are looking to expand their practices by preparing comprehensive tax plans for their clients. The course takes an in-depth overview of tax planning concepts, and also demonstrates how tax planning can help build year-round revenue and attract new clients to the tax practice. Topics such as tax planning for Alternative Minimum Tax, Passive Activity Rules and Opportunities, and tax planning for Real Estate Transactions will be covered as well.

Day 1 is focused on understanding the tax compliance rules, within a tax planning focus, to reduce clients’ tax liability and prepare for future transactions. The AICTC™ code of ethics and standards for practice will also be explained. This course is ideal for beginning tax planners or for those who have not done tax planning as fee engagements.

INTERMEDIATE TAX PLANNING TECHNIQUES AND CONCEPTS: THE AICTC™ APPROACH

Day 2 – Course Level: Intermediate
Prerequisite: Basic understanding of individual and business tax preparation and compliance and completion of Day One AICTC™ Tax Planning Academy. No advanced preparation is needed for any of the tax planning academy courses.


Day 2 of the Tax Planning Academy is focused on more complex planning concepts and techniques, that identify clients’ mistakes and missed opportunities in their prior year tax returns. Coursework will focus on tax planning for multiple business entities, captive insurance companies, retirement planning, and tax planning for exempt income.

The focus of Day 2 is on understanding tax compliant rules with a tax planning emphasis; to reduce clients’ tax liabilities and prepare for future transactions. The AICTC™ patented process for analyzing prior year tax returns will be shared with specific emphasis on appraising inaccuracies and creating proactive tax opportunities for clients. An interactive case study will require students to identify tax planning strategies for real-world tax returns and will be presented to the group. This workshop is ideal for tax planners and for those who have done minimal tax planning as fee engagements.

Day 3 – Course Level: Intermediate
Prerequisite: Basic Understanding of individual and business tax planning and completion of Days 1 and 2 of the AICTC™ Tax Planning Academy. No advanced preparation is needed.


Day 3 of the Tax Planning Academy is focused on technique for using the CTC™ tax planning patented approach to reduce clients’ tax liabilities and prepare the future transactions. A live case study will be conducted by students and presented to the group. Sales techniques for providing services and expertise to client will discuss focusing on “Practice Renewal”.

Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Interpret the AICTC™ system for analyzing client’s prior year tax returns
  • Recognize tax planning opportunities through tax return analysis
  • Utilize the tax return analysis to sell a tax planning engagement
